Syphilis: This bacterial infection usually presents with a contagious sore called a chancre. But even if left untreated the sore can disappear and the disease can lie dormant. Even when dormant the disease is spread through sexual contact, including oral sex. The disease can become active again months or even several years later with horrible consequences such as blindness, insanity, bone and heart damage and death.
Gonorrhea: A disease marked by the production of a foul pus. The disease can affect other body parts, rectum, eyes, heart, throat, brain. The first symptoms to appear are burning sensation with urination and the discharge of pus.
Chlamydia: One of the fastest spreading diseases among teens because it has usually either very mild or no symptoms. May cause PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and infertility in women and can damage permanently the male urinary tract.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID): Usually caused by another disease, particularly Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. This disease travels up the pelvic tract and sometimes even into the abdominal cavity. It can result in chronic pain, infertility, adhesions and in severe instances death.
Pubic Lice: This is a curable insect / parasite that adheres to pubic hair. Causes intense itching, and red pimples that can become infected with scratching.
Scabies: This is a mite that burrows into the skin causing irritation and intense itching. Again, areas can become infected with scratching. It is spread through sexual contact as well as infested clothing and bedding.
